Does Therapy Really Help? THERAPY
WORKS!
Nearly 50 million Americans suffer from emotional problems. In the Consumer Reports article, “Does Therapy Help?” studies found: psychotherapy works. Of the 4,000 people who used a therapist, 90% reported being able to manage their lives better. The longer the treatment and the more involved the client, the better it works. M. L. Smith et al reexamined the data on the benefits of psychotherapy for 475 controlled studies and found that the typical patient after treatment was better than that of 77% of untreated controls, and that the rate of relapse in the first 2 years was small.
